Katharine Overgaard, Director, Analog Diary, 2024

“Laube’s intensely expressive works are rich in texture and tone and exemplify the artist’s intuitive, energetically-driven practice. Cues relating to the natural world abound — amalgams of voluminous paints, like specimens of vibrant natural growths, trimmed from her canvas palettes are collaged onto painted supports; and titular references to the moon, trees, sea, sun, and stars are frequent — but, most of all, Laube’s paintings describe the breadth of the human experience through their boundary-pushing expansiveness. In each work, Laube challenges the rote characteristics which have historically defined painted art works as Painting by engaging a broad range of mixed materials and subverting the supremacy of the picture plane. Throughout her diverse and generative approach, Laube impresses upon her viewers a feeling of wonderment and openness.”

“The tiny but mighty works pack a powerful punch, but have a candy-like appeal. The shimmering echoes of gold leaf catch the eye from across the room, drawing one in to reveal complex brushwork.”
